Gross National Happiness is based on the conviction that materials wealth alone does not bring happiness, or ensure the contentment and well-being of the people and economic growth and modernization should not be at the expense the people’s quality of life or traditional values.
Bhutan’s aim is to further develop the Gross National under the four pillars. GNH are four priorities –equitable and sustainable socio-economic development, preservation and promotion of cultural values, protection of the natural environment and establishment of good governance.
GHN policy provides explicit criteria to guide and measure the country’s development. As a young democracy, all political parties in the country put forth GNH as their party manifesto. Every one talks and thinks GNH at different levels.
